South Beach Salmon Grounds is an outer-exposed sand flat off Westport, Washington, running 20 to 60 feet deep along the open coast. Chinook and Coho Salmon are the primary targets here, both peaking from June through September. Trolling dominates the fishery, with whole herring, anchovies, trolling spoons, and hoochies worked for Chinook, and cut-plug herring, spoons, hoochies, and flashers pulled for Coho across the shallow sand. Mooching whole or cut-plug herring covers the same depth band when fish hold tight, and metal jigs work the flat when salmon stack near bottom. The lack of hard structure keeps the approach mobile, letting anglers cover water and follow bait across the exposed flat.
