The Pipe marks the Hyperion Outfall off Santa Monica, California, where the seafloor runs 60 to 110 feet over soft bottom and submerged structure. California Halibut hold across this range and peak from March through July, best worked by drift fishing live anchovies, sardines, or smelt along the drift line. Barred Sand Bass move in around the same water, peaking in March and again from June through August, and respond to drift-fished plastic swimbaits or bait-fished squid. Sculpin fill out the depth from June through September, taken on a dropper loop baited with squid, anchovy, or mackerel strips near the bottom. Drifting the deeper edges of the outfall keeps baits in the strike zone as tide moves fish across the structure.
