About Comox Bar Range 1

Comox Bar Range 1 is an outer-exposed sand drop-off in DFO subarea 14-11 off Comox, British Columbia, where the bottom falls away through depths of 20 to 120 feet. The site holds Chinook Salmon that peak from June through August and Coho Salmon running from May into September, with Lingcod concentrating from January through March and again from May through September, alongside resident Pacific Cod, Rockfish, and English Sole. Trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, or hootchies along the edge of the drop-off works the Chinook and Coho as they move across the sand, while mooching cut-plug or whole herring covers the same water at a slower pace. Lingcod hold tighter to the structure and respond to metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs worked near the bottom of the slope, or to bait such as whole herring, live greenling, and squid. Fishing the deeper end of the range keeps offerings in contact with the drop where these species stage.
