Sandy Island sits off Comox, British Columbia, marking a sand-bottom drop-off that falls through 0 to 90 feet across a mid-exposure stretch of water. Chinook Salmon peak here from June through August and Coho Salmon run from May into September, with anglers working trolling spoons, anchovy, and hootchies over the slope for both. Lingcod hold to the structure with peaks in January through March and again May through September, taken on metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, while Pacific Halibut move through March to July and respond to drift jigging along the deeper sand. Black Rockfish concentrate from June to August and take metal jigs and soft plastic swimbaits, alongside Copper and Canary Rockfish and Pacific Cod that share the same bottom. The drop-off edge itself is the key feature, letting boats stage bait presentations along the change in depth as tides move fish across the sand.
