STRUCTURE
Drop Off
Outer Exposed

Arbutus Point is an outer-exposed rock drop-off in the Cowichan area of British Columbia, where the bottom falls away through depths of roughly 260 to 660 feet. Chinook Salmon hold here from June through September and Coho Salmon run June through October, while Lingcod concentrate over the structure from June to August and Pacific Halibut peak earlier, from March through July. Downrigger trolling with anchovy in teaser heads, hootchies, trolling spoons, and flashers covers the salmon along the drop, and mooching cut-plug or whole herring works the same water. Lingcod respond to jigging with swimbaits and metal jigs worked down onto the rock, and halibut come to drift jigging with leadhead jigs and swimbait tails or bait fished on the bottom. Canary Rockfish, Pacific Cod, and English Sole also share this rocky, deep-water ground.
