Cherry Point Hump is a rocky pinnacle in Cowichan waters, rising from a mid-exposure seabed with depths running from 260 to 660 feet. The structure holds Lingcod through their June to August peak and Pacific Halibut from March into July, while Chinook Salmon move through between June and September. Deeper water over the rock also supports Rougheye, Shortraker, and Darkblotched Rockfish alongside Sablefish. Anglers work Lingcod with jigging using swimbaits, metal jigs, or bucktail jigs, and drop drift jigs with swimbait tails or heavy metal jigs for halibut holding near the pinnacle's base. Chinook come to downrigger trolling with anchovy in a teaser head, hootchies, or flashers worked across the structure.
