About Musgrave Rock

Musgrave Rock is an outer-exposed rocky pinnacle in Cowichan waters (DFO subarea 18-7), rising through depths of roughly 260 to 660 feet off the coast of British Columbia. The structure holds a strong groundfish population, with Lingcod peaking from June through August and Black Rockfish running from May through August, while Copper Rockfish stay active year-round. Anglers work the rock and its adjacent depths with jigging using metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and soft plastic swimbaits for the resident bottom species, dropping live greenling or herring on drifts when targeting larger Lingcod. The pinnacle also draws Chinook Salmon from June through September and Coho Salmon from June through October, taken on downrigger trolling and trolling setups with anchovies, hootchies, trolling spoons, and flashers. The steep relief and exposed position concentrate fish along the pinnacle's edges, making depth control over the rock the key to consistent contact.
