Maple Bay and the nearby Burial Islet form an inner, protected bay in the Cowichan area of British Columbia, with a mixed bottom and depths running from 10 to 60 feet. The spot holds Chinook Salmon through their peak from June to September, followed by Coho Salmon that stay active from June into October. Downrigger trolling covers water most effectively here, working anchovy in a teaser head, hootchies, trolling spoons, and flashers across the mixed bottom and along the islet's structure. Mooching cut-plug or whole herring and jigging metal or soft plastic jigs give anglers alternatives when fish sit tight to the bottom or in the protected shallows. For Coho, trolling hootchies and spoons and bucktailing over the sheltered water tighten the presentation as the season runs later.
