STRUCTURE
Kelp Reef
Mid

Secretary Islands sits in the Cowichan waters of British Columbia, where a kelp-fringed rock reef rises through depths of 40 to 120 feet at a mid-exposure position. The structure holds Lingcod, which peak from June through August, alongside Rockfish that remain available year-round across all twelve months. Chinook Salmon move through from June to September, followed by Coho Salmon peaking June into October. Anglers work the reef edges and rocky bottom with jigging for Lingcod and Rockfish, using metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs with soft plastics, while downrigger trolling with anchovy in teaser heads, hootchies, and flashers takes Chinook over the same ground. Coho respond to trolling with spoons and hootchies through the upper water column, with mooching cut-plug herring an effective supporting approach around the kelp.
