About Wallace Point / Bedwell Harbour Entrance

Wallace Point marks the entrance to Bedwell Harbour in the southern Gulf Islands, a rock pinnacle in DFO subarea 18-4 where the bottom rises to within 5 feet of the surface and drops off to around 35 feet. The mid-exposure structure holds Lingcod, which peak from February through April, alongside a mix of rockfish including Rougheye, Shortraker, and Darkblotched, plus Sablefish over the deeper edges. Chinook Salmon move through from May into August, drawn to the current lines that form around the point on tide changes. Anglers working the Lingcod target the rock with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, and back that up with bait fishing using live greenling, whole herring, or squid. For Chinook, trolling anchovy, herring, hootchies, or spoons covers water along the entrance, while mooching cut-plug herring and jigging metal jigs work the same tide-driven structure.
