About Money Maker Reef

Money Maker Reef is a rock pinnacle in the Gulf Islands of British Columbia, sitting in DFO subarea 18-3 at mid exposure across a depth range of 35 to 50 feet. The reef holds a consistent rockfish population, with Black Rockfish peaking February through October and Copper Rockfish available year-round, alongside Kelp Greenling and other bottom species. Lingcod concentrate on the structure from February through April, while Chinook Salmon move through May to August and Coho follow from June into October. Anglers working the pinnacle for rockfish and lingcod rely on jigging with metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and swimbaits over the rock, while bait fishing with herring or squid covers the bottom. Salmon are taken by trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, and hootchies through the water column above the reef.
