Russell Reef Hump is a rocky pinnacle in the Gulf Islands of British Columbia, rising through mid-exposure water at depths of 40 to 120 feet. The structure holds a strong bottom fishery, with Lingcod peaking from February through April and resident rockfish—Quillback, Copper, Canary, and Rosy—available year-round. Anglers work the rock with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs for Lingcod and Copper Rockfish, backing them up with live greenling, whole herring, or squid on the bottom. Pacific Halibut move over the deeper edges from March through August and respond to drift jigging with metal jigs and leadhead jigs tipped with soft plastics or herring. Chinook Salmon run from May through August and Coho from June through October, taken by trolling anchovy, herring, hootchies, and spoons across the pinnacle.
