STRUCTURE
Drop Off
Outer Exposed

Chutsis Island sits off Kyuquot on the outer exposed coast of British Columbia, where a rock drop-off falls from roughly 330 to 1310 feet. Chinook Salmon hold here through their May to August peak, joined by Coho Salmon from June into September, while Lingcod and Pacific Halibut run strong across the spring and summer months. Anglers work the upper water for Chinook by trolling anchovy, herring, hootchies, and spoons, or slow the presentation with cut-plug and whole herring on the mooching gear. Along the rock structure of the drop-off, jigging metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs takes Lingcod, and drift jigging the same leadheads and metal jigs over the deeper edges targets Pacific Halibut. Pacific Cod, Sablefish, and Rougheye Rockfish also populate the deep water off this steep contour.
