Five Finger Island sits in DFO subarea 17-12 off Nanaimo, British Columbia, a mixed rock-bottom structure at mid exposure with depths running from 35 to 130 feet. Chinook and Coho Salmon are the summer draws here, both peaking from June through September, while Pacific Halibut holds through the spring and summer stretch from March into August. Lingcod fishes strongest in March and April and again from May through August, and Rockfish stay catchable across the full calendar. Trolling spoons, flashers with hoochies, and cut-plug herring cover the salmon over this ground, while jigging metal jigs and leadhead jigs works the rock structure for Lingcod and Rockfish. For Halibut, drift jigging with leadhead jigs and soft plastics or bait fishing whole herring and octopus reaches the deeper end of the range.
