Grey Rock is a rocky pinnacle in DFO subarea 17-12 off Nanaimo, British Columbia, rising through mid-exposure water with depths ranging from 30 to 260 feet. The structure holds Chinook and Coho Salmon through their Jun–Sep peaks, while Lingcod turn on from Mar–Apr and again May–Aug, sharing the reef with Canary and Quillback Rockfish, Pacific Halibut, and Pacific Cod. Salmon come to trolling with anchovy, herring, flashers with hoochies, and trolling spoons, with mooched cut-plug herring working the same water when fish sit deeper. Lingcod respond to metal jigs and leadhead jigs bounced along the rock, or to whole herring and live greenling fished on the bottom near the pinnacle's edges. Halibut hold on the deeper margins below the structure, where drift jigging with leadhead jigs and soft plastics or metal jigs covers ground as the tide moves bait across the rock.
