Maude Island and Pylades Channel form a rock-bottom corridor near Nanaimo, British Columbia, where currents funnel through mid-exposure water running 40 to 150 feet deep. Lingcod hold along this rocky structure with peaks in March and April and again from May through August, while rockfish stay catchable year-round across the same terrain. Chinook and Coho Salmon move through the channel from June to September, with trolling spoons, herring, and flashers with hoochies worked along the corridor accounting for most fish. Anglers targeting lingcod and rockfish jig metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and swimbaits over the rock, or fish whole herring and squid on the bottom. The channeled layout concentrates tidal flow, so drifting jigs and swimbaits through moving water covers the deeper edges effectively.
