Valdes Island South, known locally as Shingle Point, is a mid-exposure bay near Nanaimo, British Columbia, with a mixed bottom running from 10 to 60 feet. The mixed structure holds Lingcod, which peak from March through April and again from May through August, alongside a year-round Rockfish population. Chinook and Coho Salmon move through from June to September, while resident bottomfish stay catchable across the full depth range. Anglers work the deeper end of the bay by jigging metal jigs and swimbaits for lingcod and rockfish, or drop leadhead jigs and soft plastic swimbaits along the mixed bottom. For salmon, trolling anchovy, herring, or flashers with hoochies covers the water column, and mooching cut-plug herring suits the mid-depth structure.
