Virago Rock is an exposed rocky pinnacle in DFO subarea 17-3 off Nanaimo, British Columbia, rising through water that runs 50 to 210 feet deep. Chinook and Coho Salmon move through from June to September, with trolling anchovy, herring, or flashers with hoochies working the current lines over the structure. Lingcod hold on the rock from March into April and again from May through August, taken by jigging metal jigs and swimbaits close to the pinnacle. Black Rockfish stack up over the same terrain from February to September and respond to metal jigs and leadhead jigs with soft plastics, while Pacific Halibut come to drift jigging with herring or leadhead jigs across the deeper edges. The outer, exposed position keeps tidal flow steady across the rock, concentrating fish along the up-current faces and drop-offs.
