Centre Reef is a rocky pinnacle rising to within 10 feet of the surface off Nanaimo, dropping to around 70 feet in DFO subarea 17-8. Its mid-exposure structure holds Chinook and Coho Salmon through their June to September peaks, along with Lingcod that fish strongest from March into April and again May through August. Black Rockfish work the reef from February to September, while Copper and Canary Rockfish, Pacific Halibut, and Pacific Cod round out the bottom fishery. Anglers troll anchovy, herring, and flashers with hoochies for salmon over the pinnacle, then jig metal jigs and leadhead jigs across the rock for Lingcod and rockfish. Halibut come to drift jigging with leadhead jigs and herring worked through the deeper edges of the structure.
