Alcala Point is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off in DFO subarea 17-3 off Nanaimo, British Columbia, where the bottom falls from roughly 260 to 660 feet. Chinook and Coho Salmon are the main summer draw, both peaking June through September, while Lingcod hold on the structure from March into August and Black Rockfish stay active from February through September. Anglers troll anchovy, herring, or flashers with hoochies for Chinook and Coho along the edge, and mooching cut-plug herring works the same water when a slower presentation is needed. Over the rock, jigging metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and swimbaits takes Lingcod and Black Rockfish, with the deeper contours also holding Pacific Halibut and Pacific Cod. The exposed drop-off concentrates fish along its face, so working the depth breaks tends to produce across these species.
