The Nanaimo Harbour Waterfront Walkway runs along Maffeo Sutton Park in Nanaimo, British Columbia, a beach-access stretch of shoreline within DFO subarea 17-14. Chinook and Coho Salmon both peak here from June through September, while Dungeness Crab move through the harbour from July into September. Anglers working for salmon rely on trolling with anchovy, herring, flashers with hoochies, or trolling spoons, and back it up with mooching cut-plug or whole herring and jigging metal jigs. Coho respond to the same trolling approach along with bucktailing and metal jigs when they hold near the surface. For crab, drop traps or ring nets baited with fish carcasses, herring, chicken, or fish heads off the walkway's edge.
