Three Fathom Patches is a rocky pinnacle in DFO subarea 17-14 off Nanaimo, British Columbia, sitting in an outer, exposed position where depths run 15 to 25 feet over hard bottom. The structure holds Chinook and Coho Salmon through their summer peak from June to September, while Lingcod turn on in early spring and again from May through August, and Black Rockfish stay active across a long stretch from February to September. Salmon come to trolled anchovy, herring, and flashers with hoochies worked along the pinnacle edges, with mooching cut-plug herring a reliable alternative when fish sit tight to the rock. Lingcod and Black Rockfish respond to metal jigs and leadhead jigs dropped over the structure, and the shallow rock also produces Copper, Canary, and Quillback Rockfish. Pacific Halibut move through the area as well, taken on drift-jigged leadhead jigs and soft plastics or baited with whole herring.
