Outer Exposed

Cormorant Rock is an outer-exposed pinnacle off Port Hardy, British Columbia, where rock structure rises through water depths ranging from the surface down to about 65 feet. The spot holds Lingcod, which peak May through August, alongside Black Rockfish from May into September and Copper Rockfish over the shallower rock. Chinook Salmon and Coho Salmon move through the exposed water, with Chinook peaking May through August and Coho running June into September, while Pacific Halibut work the deeper edges from March through August. Jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, or leadhead jigs and soft plastics covers the rock for Lingcod and Black Rockfish, and trolling spoons or herring targets both salmon species over the same structure. Halibut respond to drift fishing with whole herring, salmon bellies, octopus, or squid worked across the bottom near the base of the pinnacle.
