Duval Point is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Port Hardy, British Columbia, where the bottom falls away through depths of roughly 260 to 660 feet. The steep structure concentrates Chinook Salmon and Lingcod from May through August, with Coho Salmon building through the summer into September and Pacific Halibut running from March into late summer. Trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, and hootchies works the salmon along the edge, while mooching cut herring and jigging metal jigs cover the water column when fish hold deeper. Lingcod hold tight to the rock and respond to metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs dropped along the drop-off, and Black Rockfish stack over the same structure from May through September on jigs and soft plastic swimbaits. Halibut on the deeper flats below the break come to drift fishing with whole herring, salmon bellies, octopus, and squid.
