Masterman Islands is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Port Hardy, British Columbia, where the bottom falls away across a broad range from 5 to 290 feet. The structure holds Chinook Salmon from May through August and Coho Salmon from June through September, with Pacific Halibut running March through August and Lingcod peaking May through August. Trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, and hootchies along the drop-off works the salmon, while mooching cut herring covers the shallower edges. Halibut hold over the deeper flats and take whole herring, octopus, or squid on the drift, and Lingcod come from the rock structure on metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs. Canary and darkblotched rockfish, Pacific Cod, and Sablefish also occupy the deeper reaches of this drop-off.
