Mouat Rock is an exposed offshore pinnacle off Port Hardy, British Columbia, where rock structure rises through a water column that runs from 30 to 610 feet. Lingcod hold tight to the pinnacle and peak from May through August, taken by jigging metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs with soft plastics, or by bait fishing whole herring, live greenling, and squid. Pacific Halibut work the deeper edges from March through August, where drift fishing whole herring, salmon bellies, octopus, and squid across the bottom covers the most ground. Chinook Salmon and Coho Salmon move through the exposed water in summer, Chinook peaking May through August on trolled anchovy, herring, spoons, and hootchies, and Coho peaking June through September on trolling spoons, hoochies, and cut-plug herring behind flashers. Canary, Copper, and Quillback Rockfish round out the catch over the same rock terrain.
