Sussex Reefs is an outer-exposed rocky pinnacle off Port Hardy, British Columbia, rising through 35 to 100 feet of water in open, current-swept ground. Lingcod hold tight to the rock and peak from May through August, while Pacific Halibut work the surrounding bottom from March into August and Chinook Salmon move through the same window from May to August, followed by Coho peaking June through September. Anglers jig metal jigs, swimbaits, or leadhead jigs with soft plastics for lingcod along the pinnacle's structure, and drift whole herring, salmon bellies, octopus, or squid for halibut across the deeper margins. Chinook respond to trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, or hootchies over the reef, with Coho taking trolled spoons, hoochies, and cut-plug herring higher in the column. Canary and copper rockfish, sablefish, and Pacific cod round out the mixed bottom fishery on the rock.
