Fresh Rock is an outer-exposed pinnacle off Port McNeill, British Columbia, where rock structure drops through a range of 5 to 180 feet. The steep relief holds Pacific Halibut and Chinook Salmon through their May–August peaks, along with Coho Salmon into September and Lingcod that come on strong in late winter, midsummer, and again in late summer. Anglers work the pinnacle's deeper rock for halibut with drift jigging using leadhead jigs and plastic swimbaits or metal jigs, and switch to bottom bait fishing with whole herring, salmon heads, or squid when the drift slows. Lingcod hold tight to the same structure and respond to jigging with metal jigs and swimbaits, while Chinook and Coho hunt the surrounding water and are targeted by trolling flashers with hootchies, trolling spoons, and whole or cut-plug herring. The exposed position and hard-bottom relief also bring up rougheye, darkblotched, and canary rockfish alongside sablefish from the deeper edges.
