Tuft Rock is an exposed pinnacle off Port McNeill, British Columbia, rising over rocky bottom in outer waters where depths run from 5 to 40 feet. The structure holds a strong resident population of Lingcod, which peaks in February and March, again in June and July, and once more in August and September, alongside Black Rockfish that stay active from March through September. Copper Rockfish concentrate around the rock in summer, June through September, while Pacific Halibut and Chinook Salmon move through the surrounding water from May into August. Anglers work the pinnacle with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs for Lingcod and rockfish, and drift jigging with leadhead jigs and plastic swimbaits covers the deeper edges for halibut. Chinook here respond to trolling with whole herring, anchovy, or flashers with hootchies over the exposed outer approach.
