The Hump 3.3 km S of San Simon Point is a rocky pinnacle rising from 85 to 90 feet of water in the outer exposed waters off Port Renfrew, British Columbia. Pacific Halibut hold over this structure through their peak from March to August, while Lingcod concentrate on the rock from May to August and Black Rockfish stay active from March to September. Chinook Salmon move through from May to September and Coho follow from June to September, both taken by trolling anchovy, herring, hootchies, or trolling spoons across the pinnacle. Halibut respond to drift jigging with heavy leadhead jigs, salmon bellies, or octopus over the top of the rise, and the same drifts produce Lingcod on metal jigs and swimbaits worked close to the structure. The confined footprint of the pinnacle keeps fish stacked tight to the rock, so short, controlled drifts across the high point work better than covering open ground.
