Outer Exposed

Cottam Point is an outer-exposed rock drop-off off Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, where the bottom falls from roughly 260 to 660 feet. Chinook Salmon peak here from July through September and Coho Salmon run from June into October, both taken by trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, or hootchies along the structure. Lingcod hold to the rock through their January-to-March peak and respond to metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs worked near bottom. Pacific Halibut move through from March to August and are targeted by drifting whole herring, salmon bellies, or octopus over the deeper edges of the drop. Copper and Canary Rockfish, Pacific Cod, and Sablefish round out the catch across the same rocky terrain.
