Mistaken Island sits off Nanaimo, British Columbia, an outer-exposed rock drop-off where the bottom falls away from 40 to 180 feet. The structure holds Chinook Salmon and Coho Salmon, both peaking from June through September. Trolling dominates here, with anchovy, herring, flashers with hoochies, and trolling spoons worked along the edge of the drop-off where the depth changes fast. Mooching cut-plug or whole herring covers the Chinook that hold tight to the rock, while jigging metal jigs reaches fish stacked deeper on the slope. For Coho, trolling spoons, hootchies, and flashers stay productive through the same summer window, with bucktail flies an option higher in the water column.
