About Parksville Bay Hump

Parksville Bay Hump is a rocky pinnacle in DFO subarea 14-2 off Qualicum Beach, rising through mid-exposure water with depths ranging from 15 to 80 feet. The structure holds Lingcod, which peak from January through March, alongside Black Rockfish that stay active April through September and a mix of Pacific Ocean Perch, Canary Rockfish, and Sablefish across the deeper rock. Chinook Salmon move through from July to September and Coho from June to October, giving the site a clear seasonal split between bottom fish and salmon. Anglers work the pinnacle for Lingcod by jigging metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs over the rock, or drop bait such as whole herring, squid, and live greenling tight to the structure. Black Rockfish come off the same terrain on metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and soft plastic swimbaits, while passing salmon are taken by trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, and hootchies through the water column above the hump.
