About Madrona Point Hump

Madrona Point Hump is an outer-exposed rock pinnacle off Qualicum Beach in DFO subarea 14-1, rising from depths that run roughly 260 to 660 feet. The structure holds resident Lingcod, which peak from January through March, alongside Canary, Darkblotched, and Rougheye Rockfish plus Pacific Cod along the harder bottom. Lingcod respond to jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs worked over the pinnacle, with bait fishing using whole herring, squid, or live greenling as a supporting approach. Chinook Salmon move through from July into September and take trolled anchovy, herring, spoons, and hootchies, while Coho build from June through October and hold to trolled hootchies, spoons, and bait strips behind a flasher. The exposed position and steep relief concentrate both bottomfish and passing salmon over the same ground.
