About Madrona Point
Madrona Point is an outer-exposed rock drop-off off Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, in DFO subarea 14-1, where the bottom falls from roughly 260 to 660 feet. Chinook Salmon peak from July through September and Coho Salmon run from June through October, while Lingcod hold on the structure with a January-to-March peak and Black Rockfish stack up from April through September. Trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, or hootchies works the salmon along the edge of the drop, with mooching cut-plug herring a supporting option for Chinook. For Lingcod and Black Rockfish, jigging metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and soft plastic swimbaits down along the rock covers the deeper structure. Quillback Rockfish and Pacific Cod share the same broken bottom, holding tight to the rock through the water column.
