About Sangster Island Hump

Sangster Island Hump is a rocky pinnacle in DFO subarea 14-3 off Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, rising through a depth range of roughly 30 to 185 feet in a mid-exposure setting. The structure holds lingcod, which peak from January through March, alongside resident copper, quillback, and China rockfish along the rock. Chinook salmon move through from July to September, and coho are present from June into October. Anglers work the pinnacle for lingcod with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, dropping close to the rock, or fish whole herring, squid, and live greenling as bait. For salmon, trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, and hootchies covers the water column over the hump, while mooching cut-plug herring and jigging metal jigs take fish holding tighter to structure.
