About Young Point Hump

Young Point Hump is a rocky pinnacle off Qualicum Beach in DFO subarea 14-3, rising through a mid-exposure water column that runs from 30 to 185 feet. The structure holds a strong groundfish population, with Lingcod peaking January through March alongside Pacific Cod, Wolf-Eel, and a mix of Canary, Copper, and China Rockfish. Lingcod come primarily to jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, or leadhead jigs worked over the rock, with bait fishing on whole herring, squid, or live greenling as a supporting approach. Chinook Salmon move through from July to September and Coho from June into October, both taken by trolling anchovy, herring, spoons, or hootchies across the pinnacle's edges. The vertical relief and rock bottom concentrate fish at varying depths, so adjusting presentation through the 30-to-185-foot range keeps gear in the productive zone.
