Seal Reef Hump is a rock pinnacle on the outer exposed waters off Qualicum Beach, rising through depths of 30 to 185 feet. The structure holds Pacific Halibut, which peak from March through August, alongside Lingcod that fish best from January through March. Halibut hold near the base and along the slopes, where drift fishing with whole herring, salmon bellies, or octopus works the bottom, and jigging with metal jigs or leadhead jigs covers the same ground. Lingcod concentrate tight to the rock, responding to jigging with metal jigs and swimbaits or bait fishing with whole herring and live greenling. Chinook Salmon move through from July to September and Coho from June to October, both taken by trolling spoons and hootchies over the deeper edges of the pinnacle.
