Outer Exposed

Hickey Point is an outer-exposed rock drop-off off Sayward, British Columbia, where the bottom falls away through depths of 260 to 660 feet. Chinook Salmon run strongest from May through August, with Coho Salmon following from June into October and Pacific Halibut holding through the April-to-August window. Anglers work the salmon by trolling anchovy, herring, hootchies, and spoons along the edge, while mooching whole or cut-plug herring covers the shallower passes. Over the deeper rock, drift jigging with leadhead and metal jigs takes Pacific Halibut, and the same structure holds Lingcod through their late-winter and late-summer peaks. The steep contour and hard bottom concentrate fish across a wide depth band, making jigs and swimbaits effective once the drift finds the drop.
