Ransom Point Hump is a rock pinnacle rising from mid-exposure water off Sayward, British Columbia, with depths ranging from 35 to 420 feet across its structure. Lingcod hold to the rock through peak windows in February to April and again in August and September, taken on metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs worked over the high points, or on whole herring and live greenling for anglers fishing bait. Pacific halibut move onto the deeper edges from April through August, where drift jigging with leadhead jigs and soft plastic swimbaits covers the bottom effectively. Chinook salmon run past the pinnacle from May to August and Coho from June into October, both worked with trolled anchovy, herring, hootchies, and spoons along the surrounding contours. The vertical relief of the pinnacle concentrates bottomfish, so jigs presented close to the rock account for much of the lingcod action.
