Dunlap Island sits off Tofino on the outer-exposed coast of British Columbia, a rocky drop-off that plunges from around 330 to 1,310 feet. Chinook Salmon run strongest from May through August and Coho Salmon from June through October, both taken by trolling anchovy, herring, hootchies, and spoons across the steep edge. Pacific Halibut hold near the bottom with a March to June peak, worked through drift jigging leadhead jigs and metal jigs or bait fishing salmon heads and octopus on the deeper structure. Lingcod fill in from May through August over the same rock, responding to metal jigs, soft plastic swimbaits, and leadhead jigs, while Copper Rockfish stay active February through October on jigs and cut bait. The exposed rock and sharp depth change concentrate fish along the contour, so tracking the transition between shallow and deep water is central to fishing this spot.
