The Hump 0.8 km SW of Welcome Island is a rocky pinnacle on the outer exposed coast off Tofino, rising through water that runs 75 to 155 feet deep. The structure holds Pacific Halibut, which peak from March through June, alongside Lingcod and Chinook Salmon that both peak May through August. Anglers work the pinnacle for halibut with drift jigging using leadhead jigs and soft plastics or metal jigs, and reach the bottom with whole herring or salmon heads when conditions favor bait. Lingcod respond to jigging with metal jigs and soft plastic swimbaits along the rock, while Chinook come to trolled anchovy, herring, and spoons over the same ground, with Coho building through the summer and into October. Canary Rockfish, Pacific Ocean Perch, and Copper Rockfish round out the catch across the rocky depths, with Copper Rockfish available from February through October.
