Outer Exposed

Hump 0.7 km NE of Welcome Island is an exposed rock pinnacle off Tofino, rising through 75 to 155 feet of water on the outer coast. The structure holds Lingcod, which peak from May through August, alongside Pacific Halibut in the March-to-June window and a mix of Canary and Redstripe Rockfish, Pacific Cod, and Sablefish. Chinook Salmon run strongest from May through August and Coho build from June into October, both worked by trolling anchovy, herring, hootchies, or spoons across the pinnacle. Lingcod respond to jigging with metal jigs, soft plastic swimbaits, or leadhead jigs over the rock, while Halibut come to drift jigging with leadhead jigs and soft plastics or bait fished on the bottom with whole herring, salmon heads, or squid. Fishing the up-current edges of the pinnacle keeps jigs and drifts near the structure where these fish stack.
