Outer Exposed

Coomes Bank is an outer-exposed flat off Tofino, British Columbia, where a mixed bottom rises through water running 180 to 240 feet deep. Pacific Halibut hold across this ground with a peak from March through June, while Lingcod and Chinook Salmon both fish strongest from May through August and Coho Salmon carry the season from June into October. The bank also supports Bank Rockfish, Darkblotched Rockfish, and Pacific Cod over the same broken structure. Anglers work the depths with drift jigging for halibut using leadhead jigs with soft plastics or metal jigs, and switch to jigging metal jigs and soft plastic swimbaits for Lingcod tucked against the mixed bottom. Chinook and Coho respond to trolling anchovy, herring, hootchies, and spoons across the exposed flat.
