Thorn Reef is an exposed rocky pinnacle off Tofino, British Columbia, rising through water that runs from the surface down to roughly 70 feet. The structure holds Lingcod, which peak from May through August, alongside Pacific Halibut peaking March through June and Copper Rockfish that stay active from February into October. Chinook Salmon and Coho Salmon move through the outer edge as well, with Chinook peaking May through August and Coho holding from June into October. Anglers work the rock and its adjacent depths by jigging metal jigs and soft plastic swimbaits for Lingcod and Copper Rockfish, drift jigging leadhead jigs with soft plastics for Halibut over the bottom, and trolling anchovy, herring, and hootchies for the salmon that patrol the exposed pinnacle. Bait fishing with whole herring or squid supports the bottom species when jigging slows.
