Outer Exposed

Heddington Reef is an outer-exposed rock pinnacle off Ucluelet, British Columbia, rising through water that runs 60 to 180 feet deep. The structure holds a dense rockfish community, including Canary Rockfish, Pacific Ocean Perch, Darkblotched and Shortraker Rockfish, alongside Sablefish and resident Lingcod that peak from March through May. Pacific Halibut work the surrounding bottom from April into August, while Chinook Salmon move through the exposed water from May through August. Lingcod respond to jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs over the rock, and halibut come on drift jigging with leadhead jigs and soft plastics or metal jigs across the deeper edges. For Chinook, trolling anchovy, herring, hootchies, or spoons covers the water where salmon transit the pinnacle.
