About Janit Reef Hump

Janit Reef Hump is an outer-exposed rock pinnacle off Ucluelet, British Columbia, rising from depths of 160 to 230 feet. The structure holds Pacific Halibut, which peak from April through August, alongside Lingcod that peak March through May and a mix of rockfish including Canary Rockfish, Pacific Ocean Perch, and Darkblotched Rockfish. Halibut here respond to drift jigging with leadhead jigs and soft plastics or metal jigs, while bottom bait fishing with whole herring, salmon heads, or octopus works the deeper rock. Lingcod come to jigging with metal jigs and swimbaits worked tight to the pinnacle's rocky rises. Chinook Salmon move through from May to August and Coho from May to September, both taken by trolling anchovy, herring, hootchies, or spoons over the exposed water above the hump.
