Boundary Bay's East Delta Flats form a broad, protected tidal flat along the southern edge of Vancouver, British Columbia, where soft mud bottom stretches across the inner shoreline. The water here holds shallow, running from roughly 5 to 15 feet across the flat. Its inner-protected exposure keeps conditions calmer than the open coast, and the shallow depth means the flat is heavily shaped by tidal movement, with water draining and refilling across the mud on each cycle. The gradual, featureless bottom defines the character of the spot, rewarding those who learn how the tide governs access and coverage across the flat.
