Patos Island's Alden Point sits at the outer, exposed edge of DFO subarea 7 near Bellingham, Washington, where rocky bottom structure runs from about 10 to 80 feet. The mixed habitat holds a strong lingcod fishery peaking November through February and again March through June, alongside Pacific halibut from April into August and both Chinook and Coho salmon through the summer and early fall. Anglers working the rock target lingcod, cabezon, and aggregate rockfish with jigging, using leadhead jigs with swimbaits, metal jigs, and bucktail jigs across the shallower and mid-depth ledges. Halibut hold on the deeper edges and respond to drifting herring, squid, salmon bellies, or octopus, while Chinook come to downrigger trolling with whole herring, spoons, hoochies, and flashers. Coho follow through October and take trolled flashers, hoochies, spoons, and cut-plug herring over the same exposed ground.
