About Bird Rock
Bird Rock is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Bodega Bay, California, where the bottom falls through 25 to 45 feet of water over hard structure. The rock draws Chinook Salmon that peak from April through August and Coho Salmon that hold from June into November, both reachable by trolling anchovies, spoons, hoochies, and flashers or by mooching herring along the edge. Lingcod work the structure from July through February and respond to metal jigs and swimbaits, with live rockfish or squid as a supporting option over the rock. California Halibut move onto the shallower fringes from April through August, taken on drift fishing with live anchovies or shiner perch. Blue and Black Rockfish, California Sheephead, and Pacific Bonito round out the mix across the drop-off.
